Romina Castagnino
Romi Castagnino is a Peruvian biologist and audiovisual environmental journalist based in Lima. She works as an associate producer and presenter at Mongabay, where she creates science-based documentaries and short-form series that explore wildlife, conservation, and the relationship between humans and nature in Latin America. Her work combines field expeditions, investigative journalism, and collaborations with scientists and communities. Romi is also the founder of Expedición Huellitas, a foundation that provides veterinary care to dogs and cats in remote communities during scientific and filming expeditions. Through her latest series, Strange Creatures, Romi ventures into the Peruvian Amazon to discover the strange adaptations and survival strategies of some of the planet’s most unusual species. Her goal is to spark curiosity. By presenting science through accessible and visually engaging stories, she hopes audiences will see these animals not as strange or unsettling, but as extraordinary examples of nature’s ingenuity.
