Lea Hejn
Lea Hejn is a French-Danish director specializing in creative environmental documentaries. She has worked as a producer and assistant director on projects for theatrical release, as well as for National Geographic, Netflix, and HBO.
She was the assistant director on ‘Wilding’ (Theaters and Apple TV), which won Best Ecosystem Film at the 2024 Jackson Wild Festival. The film is a powerful docudrama based on Isabella Tree’s bestselling book, chronicling the rewilding of the Knepp Estate, one of the UK’s most inspiring conservation success stories. She was also the assistant director on ‘Blue Carbon’ (HBO Max), a biopic of DJ Jayda G that blends music and science to champion coastal conservation.
Her directorial debut, ‘Mother of the Forest – Curupira,’ was a docu-animation about the mystical guardian of the Amazon (a Jackson Wild finalist). In ‘Surara – Spirit of Resistance’, we accompany the guardians of the Borari forest on the front line of their fight against illegal logging in the Brazilian Amazon.
