Andrea Villarreal Rodríguez

Andrea Villarreal Rodríguez is a filmmaker and documentary photographer. She grew up surrounded by mountains and rivers threatened by industry, which sparked her interest in portraying the complex relationship between urban communities and their natural environment. At 20, she was named a National Geographic Explorer and has since accompanied girls and young women in telling stories of defending their territory. Fuimos Mar, Somos Río (We Were Sea, We Are River) is her first short film, which premiered at the 2026 Ambulante Film Festival.
