Germán Recabarren Green
Cultural manager, diving instructor, musician, and artisan. President of the Nazca Islands Foundation and founder of Marenostrum Expeditions. An islander, fourth-generation settler, and great-grandson of the Scottish engineer Francis Green MacMurray, a key figure in maritime development and the protection of lobster resources in the Juan Fernández Archipelago. He has led various conservation and rescue projects for natural and cultural heritage, including the recovery of the seabed after the 2010 tsunami, the protection and recognition of traditional Chilean boats, and the enhancement of underwater heritage. Creator of the projects “A Journey to Rescue Memory,” “Dresden A – A Breath of Fresh Air,” and the 2025 Sea Cultural Festival. Recognized for his rescue work during the 2010 tsunami, he was named Guardian of the Juan Fernández Commune (2025) and received the National Monuments Conservation Award in the individual category (2025). Director of the documentary “Across the Sea,” his debut feature film. His work brings together culture, the sea and community, promoting the protection of the heritage and identity of the Juan Fernández Archipelago.
